Meet “The Engineer”

There are unique benefits to being located in a rural location in an old schoolhouse. Beyond the obvious benefits of peace, quiet, and beautiful countryside in which to wander, make plans, and clear the senses, there is also a resident ghost in the studio.

We call him The Engineer and he appears in the window in the mornings. No matter how much the glass is cleaned, washed, and wiped he returns again and again with the same shocked expression.

Once you become tuned to his presence, you sense his benevolence, and appreciate his contribution to the mix. The Engineer has a good ear.

Melodyne 4

We recently acquired version 4 of Celemony’s Melodyne.

Yesterday, we put it to work for the first time. We were correcting the pitching of lead vocals and harmonies. The results were absolutely astonishing. It is genuinely breathtaking how much room there is for manipulation without losing any of the natural *voice* of the original recording
